How a City Speaks through Art

Art in New Orleans

There is art all throughout the city of New Orleans, in the streets, on the walls, in the buildings, everywhere. The city also conducts art festivals to communicate their art with others and the community. Having these art festivals/ gatherings is a great way to show others what the city is about and tell the history of the city. One of the more unique festivals that New Orleans takes part in is called the LUNA Fete (which stands for Light Up NOLA Arts), it “blends New Orleans’ historic architecture with contemporary light an video mapping technology, sound installation and motion graphics” (Neworleans.com, 2018). The goal of this festival is to shine a light on the amazing work being done by the community of New Orleans.
Another way the city speaks through art is by the beautiful street art that is created all over the city. Artist use street art and murals to communicate issues, controversies, and much more relevant news to the community as well as others outside of the community. Street art is a very real and personal way that individuals use to send a message/ let their voice be heard by using the city as their canvas.
New Orleans Street Art
*Street performers are another form of art that allows the city to speak to us. Street performers show what a lively place New Orleans is and some would say that the street performers are artists and their performance is Art. While in New Orleans we got the chance to see this art and it truly spoke to us we got to experience the feelings and emotions of these performers, we got to see how proud they were of their city and what it meant to us. The city spoke to us in this way and showed us pride. The street performers were called Dragon Master Showcase an performed almost everyday across from Jackson Square I would highly recommend seeing their shows at least once, its truly an experience.
