The artist also founded Celebration Distillation, which is today the oldest working rum distillery in the United States. He has also worked as the art director of the House of Blues Productions. James Michalopoulos’s art is shown in the United States, but also abroad. His Art is featured at Universal Studios. He is a six time official artist  of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He began sculpting in 2000. He works with wood and steel.
Sculpture
Michalopoulos does bright, vibrant, colorful oil paintings depicting New Orleans. The bright colors and textures of his paintings are made possible by the use of palette knives.
Painting
James Michalopoulos usually completes one of his oil paintings within two to three days. After initial completion, he will leave a painting in his studio for a couple of weeks. He goes back throughout the course of the following weeks and adds to his paintings as time goes on until he feels that it is finished. Michalopoulos sells his works to art galleries. Even when his art is being displayed at the galleries, he has been known to bring his painting supplies and add to his paintings while they are at the gallery ready to sell.
Painting
*While in New Orleans, we passed by James Michalopoulos's gallery. I took a peak inside. His art was beautiful. It was just like the art I found on the internet by him. One of the reasons I love his art is because the architecture of the the city is one of my favorite parts, and the architecture is one of the topics his art depicts a lot!
